Positive & Negative Numbers Lab

Explore integer operations with animated models, guided practice, games, and printable sets.

Choose Your Activity

Watch operations happen on a number line and with integer counters, discover the sign rules for multiplication and division, then practice online or print a classroom-ready set.

Addition & Subtraction Explorer

See positive and negative numbers move on a number line. Switch to integer counters to watch zero pairs appear and cancel.

Multiplication & Division Explorer

Animate groups, direction, and sign patterns. Highlight the rule that same signs make a positive and different signs make a negative.

Online Practice

Practice one operation or a mixed set. Problems are randomized and every response receives immediate feedback with a sign-rule reminder.

Answerpillar πŸ›

Move a growing caterpillar under falling integer problems. Catch each problem with the segment showing its correct answer β€” but one wrong catch will flatten your Answerpillar!

Printable Practice

Create 10, 15, or 20 integer-operation problems with a separate answer key for classroom use.

Subtraction idea: subtracting a number is the same as adding its opposite. For example, 4 βˆ’ (βˆ’3) = 4 + 3.

Remember: multiplication and division use the same sign rule: same signs give a positive answer; different signs give a negative answer.

Answerpillar πŸ›

Move with your trackpad/mouse or the ← β†’ arrow keys. Use ↑ and ↓ to rotate the falling problem 90Β° so you can line it up with an answer segment. Guide it onto the segment with the correct answer. One wrong catch flattens the caterpillar!

Round 1 begins with 6 answer segments. Each cleared round adds 2 more.
How to play: Move the caterpillar horizontally with the trackpad/mouse or ← β†’. Press ↑ to rotate the falling problem 90Β° clockwise and ↓ to rotate it 90Β° counterclockwise. The falling problem must touch the segment containing its answer. A correct catch earns a point and a cheerful sound. A wrong segment triggers a splat, flattens the caterpillar, and ends the game. If a problem misses the caterpillar completely, it simply falls again.
